Mirus is Going Green!
One of our priorities at Mirus is our ability to give back to the community, through ongoing partnerships with local organizations such as UC San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center, as well as the ability to give back on a global scale through our Buy1Give1 partnership. We’re always looking for different, additional ways to give back and make a positive impact.
Last month was Earth Month, and we took the opportunity to reflect on what we can be doing within the field marketing industry to be more environmentally friendly.
One of our very own brand ambassadors, Ashley L., is a passionate environmentalist, and she shared a great initiative with us through a company called TerraCycle that we’d love to get behind! (Thanks, Ashley!)
TerraCycle paired with Solo to create a recycling program for #6 Solo Cups, which is made really simple and entirely free – just join on the website, collect used cups, and then ship them out! Once collected, the cups are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be re-molded to make new recycled products.
TerraCycle also paired with one of our client’s brands, Organicgirl, through their R3 program. By sending in their hard-to-recycle 3-pack romaine heart bags, not only are you helping the environment, but you can also receive free Organicgirl goodies as a thank you!
In addition to these TerraCycle programs, we have a few suggestions for some green initiatives to partake in. Because product demonstrations can produce a lot of waste, we are encouraging our brand ambassadors to make these small, environmentally-friendly changes in order to make a bigger impact:
Change out your plastic for compostable, renewable and eco-friendly sample cups and utensils. Green Paper Products is a great site to find a variety of biodegradable and compostable products to use for samplings.
Sort Your Waste
Sort your waste at each demo, making sure to properly recycle your used materials. You can bring separate trash bags or bins with you to your event to keep yourself accountable.
Think Before You Throw
Be cautious about what you throw away. Save any unused materials such as sampling cups or napkins to use for upcoming activations. Save and carefully store any POS signage or printouts in a folder to avoid having to re-print materials for more demos. If you have leftover branded cups or POS after the completion of a program, save it for personal use at home or distribute to friends or family!
Minimize Your Mileage
Driving to different locations for various promotions can be somewhat of a hassle. So if you’re planning on going out of your way to a certain area for an event, do your best to make the most out of the trip. See if there are any opportunities to do a double-shift by seeking out an additional demo in close proximity.
Beyond these few suggestions to apply within the field, here are some additional simple, “single-use swaps” with everyday items that you can easily do.
We hope that we can help inspire people to show the earth a little bit more love.
“The people who make the biggest difference are the ones who do the little things consistently.”
